Alaska LDA Video Project
Project to build LDA community across the State of Alaska
for first video
Introduce what I’m trying to do
build a community for people with disabilities
provide more social opportunities during time of Covid-19
provide more social opportunities for people in remote locations
give people a voice who don’t normally have a voice
Why this is important
In Alaska many people live in small remote communities and face challenges of social isolation.
Disabled people feel isolated due to problems getting out and being understood and self shame.
During Covid-19 times social isolation is on steroids.
Three strikes! Disabled people in Alaska during time of Covid-19 are impacted multiple ways.
Solution: encourage/educate/advocate self-production of short videos showing real people in interesting places/situations
Basic template being “hello my name is … and I have disabilities”
interesting things about me
interesting things about where I live
my ideas about how to build community
Why this might work
We are already playing the isolation game – people in Alaska deal with this and may have knowledge to share with the world
Alaska has name recognition and scenery and unusual lifestyles and will help attract attention
with Covid-19 there is increased awareness and need for coping tools for social isolation
technology to do this is now widely available (smart phones, laptops, internet)
